With all the recalls going on- here’s an interesting check list put out by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The Thrift Store Safety Checklist for Consumers and Thrift Stores
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 69% of thrift stores are selling at least one hazardous consumer product- which was most likely a children’s product. Realistically, I think the number is much higher then 69%. I get around quite a bit to the thrift stores and have to say part of the fun is the hazardous materials, like faulty toasters and grandma’s size 24 rumba panties.
On the other hand- I do have children so I recommend caution when buying many of the items on this list, including used cribs and old playpens, old toys, and more. I also don’t believe this list is nearly as comprehensive as it could be, so keep in mind current recalls and safety issues in general when shopping thrifts, eBay, and rummages.
