Santa Claus is Back in Town!
December 2, 2008 by Michelle Gartner
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I have to say my Thanksgiving was fabulous. Nothing really exciting happened, I just hung out with my children, while Jer cooked for us. I decided early on that I would take some time off from blogging and just enjoy being with the family. I did have to get on the computer to check my emails because I had some sales on eBay over Thanksgiving Day weekend. I ran a Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale on eBay and therefore had a little shipping and work to do. When I checked my emails I was surprised to see bloggers Entrecard dropping on Thanksgiving and even putting up new posts. Judging by the new posts in my reader there were a lot of people blogging over the Holiday weekend.
I am not knocking anyone, but please take some time to enjoy the Holidays. This time of year goes by so quickly. Before you know it- it will be time to take down the decorations and the long post holiday Winter will have settled in. Life is too short not to enjoy the best time of the year. I know a lot of people get depressed over the Holidays, but for me it’s still a magical time. It’s not about getting stuff or shopping which can get stressful, especially in a recession. The Holidays are all about enjoying family and friends.
The best part is just being with my family, whether it’s baking cookies or watching Christmas movies together. Simple things like driving around town looking at the neighborhood lights or taking the kids to see Santa. I don’t mean the mall Santa for over priced pictures. I am fortunate enough to live in an area that has a lot of really cool free events during the Holidays for children. Next weekend we will be over in the next town visiting with Santa and freezing our butts off in a horse drawn carriage. Even better then that- the following weekend, Santa’s Vintage Steam Train will be back this way. There is nothing as magical and exciting then watching a huge steam train with Santa on board barrel into town on a cold foggy morning. It’s like the Polar Express come to life.
I hope you enjoy yourself this Holiday season- I am.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, because Santa’s Back in town and I have been a real good baby… Santa Claus is back town…

I have become depressed during holidays before, but not this year. I am going to enjoy the holidays and spend some quality time with my family. I love Christmas cookies! I’ve been really good, so I hope Santa comes to see me too..haha! Have a wonderful holiday season Michelle
Are you sure you’ve been good this year? Cause I hear stuff on the blogosphere.
Word on the street is that you and Speedcat are leaning towards the naughty list…
What a gorgeous fat, fluffy tree. It actually makes snow seem bearable. Sigh…
Oh, that vintage train is awesome! I’m so glad you are having some time to enjoy yourself and your family. I’ve been considering taking a month off from blogging - don’t know if I actually will, but thinking about it. I may just do a lot lighter posting but there are still so many things I want to post about before I can do that. LOL. I seriously think everyone should boycott commercialism next year and do homemade gifts or foods and just spend time together. It has to start somewhere and I think I’m gonna go for that. Hell, I may start doing it for birthdays too!
Teeni- I took a whole month off from blogging in the summer and I enjoyed it. Blogging and commenting - the whole nine yards can be really time consuming. Besides the holidays- we are a winter sports family. My oldest has his first wrestling match this Thursday and middle school basketball starts soon for my other son. There is just so much to do, and so little time. I really think it’s good for people to sort of unplug from the internet for awhile.
Hmmmm- I am sort of with you on the commercialism and on the other hand, if Americans don’t start spending again this recession is going to get deeper. Let’s see what the new president has in store for us next year. For me not to spend a lot of money on toys and what not isn’t really a change. My children get used toys from me frequently and my oldest buy most of their video games used… time is more precious then stuff.
Hi Frog Mamma- (can I call you that?) I used to be able to light up that tree. The guy who owned this house before us wired some of the outside and there is an outlet under it. The tree is on the same breaker as our basement and we have all our computers down there…needless to say we fried something and my outdoor outlet no longer works. So I only had pretty Christmas lights out there once. That tree is also a source of contention- I want to keep shaping it like the previous owners, but my husband wants it to go natural. Oh well- I guess it does not matter.
Blogging on a holiday?? … that’s just CRAZY!
Actually, I think a lot of people fire up there computers before bed and cruise around a bit rather than a book or TV.
I am shocked you are really not on my blogroll - you know I am unorganized, and quirkie really …. OOps !!!! (blush)
Going to add you now, MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!!!! Ho Ho Ho
PS … Can you see Canada from your window ?? (I always use to many explitives) !!!!
Will there be another holiday Three Stooges Film Festival here? - that would be cool. Just sayin`
Being a former small town girl I know what you mean. I have to admit I do miss the pretty country lights especially the village green- a patch of grassy area that runs up through the village center. A line of multi-colored lighted trees run straight up the center of it, in single file like little nutcracker soldiers.
All the colonial style house ,turned into businesses now, are adorned in evergreens and lights all tied up with big red bows. My home town is really really cute this time of year.
But for me nothing beats the Spring!
Have a happy holiday season vintage or new:)
It does go by so quickly! But I love every fast moving minute of it!
Eric - I finally got your button to look right on my site- I put you on the top of my blogroll because your button looks so retro and you are the only blogger I know that posts about Marilyn Monroe and sleestaks…
About Canada- I can’t see the motherland from my window, but like all good lumberjack babes… it is in my heart at all times and when I eat cheese.
Deborah- What you talking about woman- we barely got into December and you are talking about Spring already. One season at a time - Santa’s going to bring you coal- if you don’t learn to enjoy the ice, and the shoveling, the dirty slush and the cold and flu season. SPRING INDEED! LOL
Lorie- thanks for dropping by bring hot soup… in a pretty jar.
Ridiculous ain’t it I am already thinking about crocus and daffodils. LOL!
I hate the Fall/Winter, always have and always will….;)
Glad to hear you had a lovely thanksgiving. I felt sorry for an American lady I work with who, of course, being in Britain, had to work over the thanksgiving period and be away from her family. I like the sound of thanksgiving. We should have it here.
