It occurred to me that some of you- young whipper snappers might not know who the Fred Sanford is that I am referencing at the top of my web site. Fred Sanford was the main character in the 1970′s television show Sanford and Son. Fred Sanford was an old, junk dealer who lived with his son and was played by Redd Foxx, while his son Lamont was played by Demond Wilson. The show ran from 1972 to 1977 and was critically acclaimed. I feel it’s better to show a snippet of the show, then to try to go into great detail to explain the vintage coolness of Fred Sanford… here’s a little bit from the show in which Fred visits a Mexican restaurant.

Talk about reading life literally. He was so funny, never cared for the show as a kid, didn’t get it, but now I can’t get enough of the reruns.

I agree with you completely, I think when I was little I thought the show was boring. Seeing it as an adult- it and All in the Family as well a few others were pure genius.
I saw the Jeffersons the other day when Sammy Davis jr was on there and I laughed so hard I about died.
Now I hadn’t heard of Fred Sanford, but this might be a cultural thing – watching that clip and reading the premise, it is remarkably similar to the British sitcom Steptoe and Son”. It’s fascinating the way we sometimes get different versions of the same thing.

I caught your reference as soon as I saw the tagline to your site. Funny thing is, as a kid, I always thought it would be great to live in a junkyard. So now, I just live in a house filled with junk instead.
