On Saturday- my husband and I volunteered over at Neat Repeats. Neat Repeats is the new thrift store opened by my eldest son’s school to help fund tuition and other costs for the private high school. It was our first time volunteering and frankly I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Neat Repeats was located just off the highway in Plymouth, WI in a modern strip mall, that was very clean and well maintained. After a few brief introductions to the other volunteers and a look around the store, my husband and I were shown to our work area, where we would spend the next three hours pricing clothes. Not very exciting! Basically, we went through boxes of clothes (mainly woman’s clothing) and examined them for defects then priced them according to a uniform price list. After we were finished tagging an armful of items, we hung them in the store in their appropriate sections. What was exciting was browsing through the store and finding lots of treasure, while hanging up the freshly tagged merchandise.
On just our first day, I bought a double stroller for my two youngest for all of $5.00! It was in perfect shape and exactly what I was looking for to walk with my two toddlers this summer. Since my children are ages three and almost two already, I did not want to pay retail for a double stroller, most of which go for well over $100 new. Last week, I did happen to find a double stroller in another local thrift for $35 but was not sure I wanted to pay even that much. I know I sound terribly cheap, but I hate to pay a lot for things that the children will probably get very little use out of or promptly destroy.
Besides the stroller, I bought a brooch and a vintage travel bar. That’s right a travel bar for liquor, cocktails, hooch…etc. Which was kind of an odd purchase, considering I don’t drink. However, I could not resist the hard case and shiny implements of imbibing inside. I could not keep my eyes off the Executain 707 TravL Bar, with all it’s shiny, sleek mini bar accessories- not too mention it cost me all of one buck. I know you’re jealous…
The inside of my fabulous new Executain 707. I feel just like Wonder Woman or Super Mom equipped with this well stocked travel bar, I can deal with any problems thrown at me by my huge brood.
Still I have no idea what I will do with my fabulous swinging sixties travel bar. Perhaps if the children get too crazy this summer as they always do. I will break out the double stroller and take the little ones to the lake for a picnic lunch. A picnic lunch of peanut butter jelly sandwiches and cookies for the tots and a well stocked- Executain 707 for Mom ( note the 3 slots for bottles- for gin, vodka and whiskey). Or maybe since I know nothing about mixing drinks- I could just pack three bottles of Boone’s Farm. Regardless, I am sure I will be the hippest drunk on the beach.
Cheers from your vintage hostess,
Michelle
PS Here’s my daughter checking out her new ride and making sure there is room underneath for Mom to pack a picnic.

You could put grape juice in your portable bar and freak out people when you start serving your kids “drinks”…
True or I could really stock it with “Jesus Juice” for the kids. ;0)
I would personally get A LOT of use out of that vintage travel bar!!! WOW! I love it!!!
Thanks Meleah- it does make me want to take up drinking again. ;0)
It certainly make me want to drink!
