Back From My Vacation to Potsville

one of a kind wisconsinI am officially back from my blog vacation. May tends to be a really busy month for me- as our family has nine birthdays, one anniversary, and Mother’s Day all packed together. Between buying gifts, having small parties, and sending out good wishes I don’t have the time for the simpler things like this blog.

This year, I actually went out of town for some of my May vacation to visit my Mom back in Denver for a few days. It was her birthday on the 15th and I didn’t want her to celebrate alone.

I had a nice time away from my five children and a really great time with my Mom.  I enjoy going back to Colorado periodically- having lived there for 22 years prior to moving to Wisconsin. I guess the biggest change for me is how big the population explosion is in the Denver metropolitan area… too I was very surprised by the medical marijuana shops on almost every corner. I exaggerate of course about them being on every corner, but I  really was surprised to see dope sold so openly in such corner stores as the The Happy Harvest and the Ganja Gourmet.

When I pointed out all the pot shops with their iconic pictures of the seven leafed favorite son of Colorado  to my mother- she seemed surprised and said, “when did we pass that stuff?”

She obviously did not know what a pot leaf looked like even after being married to my Dad (my Dad had a medical pot habit most of his short life) for 35 years. As we passed every Italian restaurant while driving through town, she shouted at me, “is that a pot leaf?”

Which I reassured her it was not by saying, “No- Mom I think that’s basil or oregano.”

And, “No Mom I don’t believe Luca D’Italia serves up dope.”

But I digress… and I really don’t want to start an argument on the ins and outs of medical marijuana. It was just somewhat surprising to me that the fair citizens of Colorado want to tangle with that monkey and of course since I no longer live in Potsville Colorado I really don’t have too much more to say about it.

So I will close this post with a few pictures from my Colorado vacation which will not include any pictures of medical mary jane establishments and I will resume next week with the vintage stuff.

Hi Michelle! I just returned from my mini vaca too. I visited my daughter in Idaho. I had an almost 3 hour lay over in Denver. Were you there!!!

I’m flabbergasted to learn about Pottsville. I had no idea.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with your mom. I sure did with my daughter and grandkids. I even got to see my son-in-law before he went back to Wyoming. (That’s where he works on a rig)

Have a GREAT weekend, Michelle. I’ll drop back next week for the goodies:)

Oooh – wet slimy peaches is EXACTLY what they feel like! Great description. Thank you.
I don’t know what to say about the marijuana stuff. I didn’t realize it was legal in Colorado for medical reasons. I guess I just feel there are plenty of different drugs that do the same thing so I’m not sure why some people would prefer it unless they just like to smoke it. Which is fine with me also so long as they don’t drive or operate heavy machinery afterwards. ;)

May is a crazy month for me too. We have 6 birthdays, one anniversary, mothers day, and now a wedding. I hate the month of May!

Im glad you got some alone time with your mom for her birthday, sounds like the two of you had a really great time. I had NO IDEA there were so many Medical Marijuana Places out there. WOW.

Hi Louise- Idaho is beautiful- glad you got a chance to get away to see your daughter.

Teeni- most doctors will tell you that they don’t want their patients smoking anything. Those on the side of using marijuana advocate smoking it. Incidently the amount of violent crimes and car wrecks (including fatal) have gone up in areas that have legalized medical marijuana. People rob the stores and people buying- a sotre owner was recently killed. Law enforcement by in large is not for people using pot medically or otherwise. Interesting study just came out as well- that smoking pot is linked to schizophrenia. Too scary for me. I would add to your list of not driving and operating heavy machinery – not watching children. However a lot of parents smoke dope with children in the house. :(

Meleah- I think my mil trumps me- she said there are 21 birthdays for her in May and also Mothers Day and her anniversary is in May. Too much May can be overwhelming.

It sounds like you had a great time. And for some reason, this sentence really tickled me: “No- Mom I think that’s basil or oregano.”!
