Happy Earth Day to you!
I was hoping to do some fun Earth Day crafts with my daughter but she is sick today and so I will have to save the pinecone bird feeders and origami whales for the weekend.
Here’s a couple of quick Earth Day facts I want to share with you.
- Earth Day 2010 is 40 years old today- it was started in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson. (Hmmm- I guess this makes it a “vintage” holiday).
- Senator Nelson was a senator from Wisconsin- which goes to show you great minds come out of Wisconsin.
- Senator Nelson came up with the idea for Earth Day after a trip in 1969 to Santa Barbara, California in which he had seen first hand the horrible oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara.
- Earth Day in 1970 was started as a teach in to make people aware of environmental concerns.
- Today 40 years later- Earth Day is considered the largest secular holiday- celebrated worldwide by over 175 countries (according to the Earth Day Network).
Even if Earth Day is just a passing mention in your house or not even mentioned at all- I am sure you can agree that environmental issues are important to our quality of life and that we should all make efforts to reduce, recycle, and reuse.
What are your plans for Earth Day 2010- leave a comment, I would love to hear from you?

Aren’t you just supposed to take a pinch of earth and toss it over your shoulder for luck?
You’ll need more than a pinch of earth to bury the body.
Happy BELATED Earth Day!
Thanks – Happy Earth Day to YOU TOO!
