Vintage Military Patches
September 28, 2007 by Michelle Gartner
I am still going through some of my recently deceased Father’s old stuff. He liked to collect coins, stamps, casino tokens, and apparently military patches. I found a cigar box full of military patches mixed in with all his other treasures.
My second oldest son is absolutely fascinated with the military. I am 85% or more certain that he will probably go into one of the branches of the armed services when he is adult. It’s kind of scary to think about right now, but we’ll cross that bridge when he gets there. Both he and I wanted to keep some of my Dad’s patches, but frankly knowing the extent of my Father’s military career, I knew some or most of the patches were not personally my Dads.
Fortunately, looking up most of the patches was not as difficult as one would think. First of all, I found this wonderful site called vetshome.com that had a huge online archive of military patches. Between this site and eBay- I was able to ID most of the patches and then decide what to keep. My son wanted all the patches that were ranks (chevrons)- regardless of who they belonged to and I kept the patches from my Dad’s military service in a keepsake box. The rest I listed in small lots on eBay and hopefully they will make their way to some other collector who will enjoy them.
