Vintage Jewelry Pictures - because it doesn’t hurt to look…
August 13, 2008 by Michelle Gartner
I am updating several of my blogs, including this one. This weekend (hopefully) there will be a whole new look to OOAWKI. I have finally been able to weasel my way into my husband’s web development queue…
I have also launched two spin off blogs, that I am working on customizing. One blog is Vernacular Photography- which still is in the makeover process. The other Vintage Jewelry Pictures dot com - is close enough that I am ready to announce it here. It has actually been quite popular with the Stumble crowd in the jewelry category.
A special thank you to Pete of MY GPS CAMERA PHONE - Pete gave me the idea for the header with a recent tutorial Using the History Brush in Photoshop: Partial Color Imaging Re-visited. Thanks Pete.
After you are done visiting Pete- let me know what you think of my new blog?

Nice, except the wording doesn’t really show up well. It blends in too much and is hard to read.
Yeah- I am thinking about putting a light bar across the bottom or top and then putting the words in. I see that my recent comments widget doesn’t work over there. It’s been a really frustrating week- but I did get my powerseller status back this week on the one hand.
Great work on the image and thanks for the link! I agree with Dan’s point about the text, but other than that, it really highlights the jewelry.
Dan starts a vintage blog, you start a second vintage blog…come on, can’t you two get along?
And the blog looks great. The photos of the product are nice and big, which is good considering the size and details in the jewelry.
I have a silly question though - why would you create a separate site for the jewelry? Why not just show it here? I admit I’m not too knowledgeable in the marketing and niche areas of blogging. I just blog period.
Hi Teeni- I am changing ooawki to a different format so I can have the jewelry on here too- but the current format of a hierarchical blog does not give people who are seriously looking for vintage jewelry pictures and articles a way to find things easily.
Vintage jewelry collectors are pretty serious about their bling and don’t like to wade through stories about underoos and vintage slasher magazines… so that is why I did a separate blog. It’s not much work once it’s set up to post there- because all the pictures are taken from my inventory. I hated deleting them and wasting them after items sold. So now I get to put the pictures to a good use.
It looks good! Do you take the photographs yourself?
Oh! That makes a lot of sense, actually.
Good thinking about the serious buyers not wanting go wade through underoos (does anyone? LOL). I liked your explanation and thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. I like the idea of not letting your photos go to waste either. I saw some of your pics over on that blog and they are good. The pieces are fun to look at too.
