I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I have to say my Thanksgiving was fabulous. Nothing really exciting happened, I just hung out with my children, while Jer cooked for us. I decided early on that I would take some time off from blogging and just enjoy being with the family. I did have to get on the computer to check my emails because I had some sales on eBay over Thanksgiving Day weekend. I ran a Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale on eBay and therefore had a little shipping and work to do. When I checked my emails I was... [Read the full story]

A couple weeks ago I was tagged by Bobby to do the What’s in Your Handbag Meme. However, I really don’t think anyone wants to see into my purse. Basically my purse is a repository for all the receipts for both my businesses until I can account for them. I know “bad bad accountant…,” but I found that it keeps those suckers off my desk. Then I don’t feel bad about the back log of expenses I have to record in Quick Books and as we all know accounting is not about actual numbers, it’s... [Read the full story]

Recently I listed for auction on eBay a very nice looking vintage horseshoe brooch much like the one pictured. After it was sold to a very nice buyer in England I received a chastising bit of feedback because I had inadvertently pictured the horseshoe the wrong way up. Apparently- in some parts of the world a horseshoe’s prongs or opening must point up to be lucky, while in other parts of the world the horseshoe must be pointing down. Not wanting to offend more buyers the next time I list a lucky horseshoe brooch... [Read the full story]

Since I post a lot of pictures of my Dad on my blog, I thought I would switch up and post some pictures of my Mom. So here’s one from the late 80’s of me and her with a clown at the circus. We are sitting in the front row of the Ringling Brothers - Barnum & Bailey Circus and the year is 1989. Looking at this picture raises all sorts of questions, why are we at the circus as adults… why is that girl clown touching me? Why on earth did my Dad shell out good money for front row seats, at least seats close... [Read the full story]

Last week- I came across this cute little letter to Santa from my Dad. The letter was written sometime between 1959- 1961, based on my Father’s age and the handwriting. The letter to Santa reads; Dear Santa I would like a red-coulds and blue-coulds set and the Confederates and the Yankees and a Jerry Mahoney dummy. I have ben a good boy all year. Your Frieend, Michael Hood My Dad’s request for red coats and blue coats, also the Confederates and Yankees (which is actually legible)- was pretty self explanatory... [Read the full story]

You might wonder what this post has to do with vintage, it doesn’t but in a round about way which I will presently get to. Over two months ago Karen of Scraps of Mind had a post titled Can You Make Money From Scrapbooking. First of all- I want to apologize to Karen for taking so long to revisit this question. I was very excited to see her post as an avid digital scrapbooker myself. I felt that I had some perhaps different ideas for ladies (and gents) who wanted to make money from their favorite hobby. However- at... [Read the full story]

Last week I had the opportunity to read a small stack of Family Circle magazines from 1972. This was great fun for me since I was born in 1972 and gave me a chance to see what was happening in the world from the female perspective… in some ways it wasn’t pretty. Besides the rampant cigarette advertisements, there were a lot of advertisements about women not being fresh and hygienic… and I do mean a lot of advertisements! I won’t get into in this post, but it was disturbing and it seemed that a lot... [Read the full story]
