Either I want a dog or I want to drop acid…

I loathe dogs- they smell and they have a funny way of greeting people. When’s the last time a cat sniffed your junk? But ever since I was a kid I wanted a dog because of this commercial.

Actually I don’t want a dog I just want the chuck wagon effect. I suppose I could get the same effect from dropping acid, but that ’s so hit and miss whether or not I would get  the little chuck wagons or killer clowns (or killer clowns driving chuck wagons)- not to mention the drive to the seedy part of town.

I guess I’ll just throw back another glass of wine and watch this a few more times. Pour yourself a beer, throw stuff at your dog for me and enjoy!

Rub a Dub Dolly Tug Boat Shower & 1970’s Commercials

Isn’t she the cutest thing? She is a 1975 Rub-a-Dub Dolly and actually I don’t have the doll, I just found her Tugboat Shower while thrifting.

When I got home, I showed it to my husband not really expecting a response. Instead he surprised and said, “Oh yeah- my sister had one of those. She left her in the car window once, and the sun curled her hair into a tight afro.”

The he proceeded to sing, ” Rub-a-dub dolly, soft pretty dolly, she takes a bath when you bathe too. Taking a bath can be lots of fun, CAUSE TWO IN THE BATHTUB IS MORE FUN THAN ONE.”

At that point something went off in my head, “Hey I know that song! I must have had a Rub-a-Dub Dolly too. I was three then and probably just forgot about it.”

The more I think about it however, I don’t think I actually had a Rub-a-Dub Dolly. It’s more likely that I heard the commercial over and over- it is a catchy tune. If you are so inclined- watch the video of 1970’s commercials below. You’ll find Rub-a-Dub Dolly is the fourth or so video. There’s quite a few videos for the guys too, including some awesome commercials for Go Motorific and an Evel Kneivel stunt car.

There is an unfortunate drawback to my husband singing the Rub-a-Dolly song. For one, it’s stuck in my head now and two, he sounds like a pervert singing it….
