Vintage Puffy Hearts for Valentine's Day

Posted by Michelle , Friday, January 4, 2013 11:13 AM

The retail stores around me already have shelves full of chocolate for Valentine's Day, but who really wants cheap boxes of heart shaped chocolate when you can have hearts like these? The great thing about a sterling puffy heart as a memento of love, is it won't wind up on your hips after Valentine's Day. So if saving calories was part of your New Year's resolutions, give him a hint that you want jewelry instead of candy.

A Spring Picnic of Vintage Avon Jewelry

The temperature is 20 degrees Fahrenheit where I am today. It's beautiful here by Lake Michigan, but I can't help but already think of warmer weather and spring.

This morning was the first day of school, after Christmas break and while getting ready to face the cold chill outside, my son in the third grade asked his father, "when does winter end?"

My husband replied, "I think it ends at the end of June."

"Ummm- you forgot spring," I interjected.

Spring is actually a wonderful time in southeastern Wisconsin filled with flowers and warmer temperatures. Sometimes, though it seems like spring will never get here and that winter lasts forever- especially in the days right after Christmas is over.

Here are some of today's new listings in my ETSY store that have me in the mood for warmer weather and spring.

Old Vintage Virgin Mary Medal

When I took this picture of a vintage Virgin Mary medal to list in my ETSY store I felt this picture was something special. My husband happened to be working out of his home office at the same time, so I showed him my product shots for my ETSY listings because I thought my pictures came out pretty good. He looked over all of them and said they looked great, but that he really loved this picture of the Virgin Mary.

My husband happens to be a really good photographer and he shoots with a digital slr and several lens that cost more then my little digital one shot wonder... so I was pretty pleased that he liked my picture. But then he proceeded to ask me for the medal and told me, he wanted to try to shoot it himself out in our sun room. Of course I gave him the medal and not at all grudgingly- but when I went back to work listing I couldn't help but wonder how much better or more artistic his photograph would turn out.

After about ten minutes, he returned with the medal.

"I couldn't get it," he said as he went back to work on his computer.

"Your picture looks almost ghostly."

I returned to my listings smiling- I don't know what I was afraid of. My original picture was just perfect the way it was shot.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and not a threat.
